Mustaisneva-Rojunneva

Forus is planning a solar park in Kauhajoki

The project is one of the largest planned solar power projects in Finland.

The construction work for the power plant is anticipated to commence in the year 2025.

General information

Forus Oy is planning a solar power park on the former peat production areas of Mustaisneva and Rojunneva in Kauhajoki. The project is one of the largest planned solar power projects in Finland. The project area covers 950 hectares, and the estimated capacity of the solar power plant is approximately 600 MW.

The project developer for the initiative is the Finnish company Forus Ltd, with the aim of developing solar power while considering biodiversity and promoting carbon neutrality goals. The project's funding, technical planning, and construction are managed by the Finnish project company of the Danish Better Energy. The company will also remain the owner of the power plant and be responsible for electricity production and sales.

Location

The peat production area of Mustaisneva is located approximately 15 kilometers west of the center of Kauhajoki. The project area of about 850 hectares at Mustaisneva includes a peat production area of approximately 500 hectares, while the remaining 300 hectares consist of separate economic forest and marsh areas surrounding the peat production areas.

The project area of Rojunnenva is located approximately five kilometers west of the center of Kauhajoki city. Peat production in Rojunnenva began in 1977, and the production area covers six sections totaling 53.7 hectares.

The project area's surroundings are sparsely populated, bordered by various agricultural and forestry areas.

The solar park will be connected to the national grid at the 400 kV voltage level. An approximately 17-kilometer-long transmission line (overhead line) will be constructed from the substation area to the existing Kärppiö 400 kV switching station. The switching station is part of Fingrid's national grid.
